Egyptian
Book Of The Dead
I would like you to imagine that you are now about to undertake
a journey of spiritual rebirth through the different regions
of the Egyptian underworld. The important thing to remember
is that you are taking the role of the Sun-god and this means
you will be bringing your light and radiance to the dark regions
of the Tuat. You will notice that as you shine your light
forth, any menacing images will recede before you, retreating
as you pass by. Remember at all times that you are the dominant
force in the Tuat - you are the Sun itself - and this is your
journey of self-transformation.
Now,
as you lie relaxed, I would like you to imagine that, like
a mummy, you are protected by embalming bandages. Imagine
them first looped around your feet and now imagine that they
encircle your body all the way up your legs and your arms
and your chest, to your chin: leaving your head uncovered.
Accustom yourself to this feeling and sense the protective,
armouring quality which the bandages provide. And now focus
your consciousness in your head. I'd like you to imagine that
your head is filled with luminous spiritual radiance so that
you are rather like a beacon sending your rays of light in
all directions
And
now feel that you are traveling on a boat which is drawn
along by other gods who surround and protect you, and that
this boat is passing down into the earth along a mighty river.
It is a vast and awesome river that stretches before you,
but you are its master, and as the boat moves serenely in
the waters the darkness fills with the light you send forth.
Imagine
also, as you move along, that a wonderful song is coming forth
from your heart, and that this is the Song of Life which sustains
all positive forms within the Tuat.
Now,
as you journey further, you come to the Field of the Gods
of Grain and you are given nourishment fresh food from the
golden fields to sustain you on your journey. And still you
continue and as you go further into the Tuat you hear songs
of praise rise up in your honour.
But
now the Tuat grows somewhat darker and you have to focus your
light more intently. The ancient hawk-god Seker lives here,
deep beneath the earth, and the river has dried up. So instead
you move across the desert sands, above Seker's domain. Now
there are rumblings in the earth beneath you, but you pass
above these rumblings without a care, hurling beams of light
upon the sand as you do so. And now on your left-hand side
you see a huge snake, looped and coiled in flames. But as
you cast your gaze upon him he grows smaller and smaller and
is finally consumed in his own fire.
Meanwhile,
on your right-hand side another huge snake rises up this
time from a pool of boiling water. Now, as you turn your gaze
upon him you send forth a beam of light and this evaporates
the water and dissolves his form like steam wafting in the
air.
So now you go forward even further in the Tuat and you begin
to feel that like the reborn Osiris a new vitality is entering
your body. And from now on that feeling of inner light will
slowly intensify as you travel through the Tuat.
Still you venture along the river, and as you do so various
welcoming images pass before your eyes. As you offer light
to them, songs of praise rise up. And now you notice that
twelve serpents of fire have formed a protective circle around
you as you move forward, and the boat proceeds still further
through the Tuat.
The
light is welling up within you as you move steadily towards
the Mountain of the Sunrise.
Now,
the entry through this mountain is strange indeed because
you are about to pass through a long tunnel, and that tunnel
is the body of the giant serpent Mehen. But you have nothing
to fear and now you are entering his tail, drawn by the protector
gods that lead your boat. As you move through his body in
stages the light builds up within your body. And you feel
your mummy-bandages falling away, and it is as if you have
a new, beautiful, radiant body, which, in its innocence and
purity, is about to come forth into the world.
Now
as you prepare to emerge from the snake tunnel you hear your
mother, the sky goddess, calling to you to be born
And
ever so gradually you feel you are coming forth from her thighs,
and there is a wonderful feeling of release, a serene and
wonderful feeling of release. You are coming through . . .
you are being born . . . and it is beautiful.
And
you are floating free, floating into the sky. And as you float
still higher into the heavens a wonderful radiance shines
from your body, for you are illuminating the world with your
purity and love . . . (pause) Now I'd like you to just stay
with that wonderful feeling of peace and innocence and light,
and simply relax. . . relax and dwell in the beauty of it
all.
KUNDALINI YOGA
Tattva visualisations for the Chakras.
The following exercise should be practiced for each of the chakra tattva's in turn, from Muladhara to Visuddha. Initially, you make like to practice one tattva each day, for 10-20 minutes.
Sit in a relaxed position, ideally in a full lotus asana or in a chair if that is more comfortable, and breath deeply. Close your eyes and visualise the following tattva's, one at a time, persisting until you can hold the image clearly in your mind's eye:
Muladhara - a yellow square containing an inverted red triangle
Svaisthana - a white horizontal crescent (points upward)
Manipura - an inverted red triangle
Anahata - a smoky gray hexagram
Visuddha - a white circle
When you can visualise each of the tattva's clearly, practice vibrating the seed syllable through each tattva using each as a 'bridge' from one tattva to the next. The sequence as follows:
Visualise the Muladhara tattva... intone Vam
Dissolve the Lam intonation as you begin to visualise the Svaisthana tattva.
Visualise the Svaisthana tattva... intone Vam
Dissolve the Lam intonation as you begin to visualise the Manipura tattva.
Visualise the Manipura tattva... intone Vam
Dissolve the Lam intonation as you begin to visualise the Anahata tattva.
Visualise the Anahata tattva... intone Vam
Dissolve the Lam intonation as you begin to visualise the Visuddha tattva.
Visualise the Visuddha tattva... intone Ham
Dissolve the Ham intonation into your own visualisation of Kundalini Shakti - the serpent energy.
Once this alteration of symbol and mantra has begun to work for you as a sequence, practice the same sequence but visualise the Kundalini energy rising through the chakras in their appropriate position on the body:
Muladhara - base of the spine
Svaisthana - just below the navel
Manipura - just above the navel
Anahata - near the heart
Visuddha - near the Adam's Apple in the throat
