Soundspaces for going weightless

Back in 1983 when I created this track (the very first instrumental ambient section on my first album The Great Great Silence) I was deeply involved with exploring new meditation techniques and beginning to map-out Inner Space in music. Right from the beginning I called my albums 'soundspaces' because, for the most part, they were free-form audio topographies designed to create and 'qualify' a vibrational space to explore and discover - the world of inner space.

The process on the first track here 'Morning Lift-off' was about sitting in meditation and very gradually raising your awareness up through various parts of the body - energy centres - until awareness is focused in the head - before very gradually leaving the lower realms and exiting the body into the higher imagination and out through into the more subtle inner world of consciousness.

How amazing that, 34 years later, the kind of inner journey I was creating with music back in 1983 could work so perfectly with modern day space travel. Well, it's not that surprising - but it's thrilling to see it actually happening.

I was completely inspired by Elon Musk's speech at the SpaceX September 2017 Event and the Earth Orbit idea coalesced over the following few days - an album of exclusively 'space' music that could be used in every aspect of the SpaceX experience and branding - in presentations, in ads, in videos, in the spaceports, in the BFR ships (orbital and sub-orbital), on the space station, in the Moonbase and on Mars missions.

But of course getting to Elon with an idea like that is pretty impossible so I decided to just go ahead and release the compilation and let Elon find me. He sems pretty OK with Open Source so I just used the SpaceX footage and decided to release the idea to the world and see what happens. I wonder - will he find my 'Easter Egg'!?

'Morning Lift-off' did not have the countdown in it originally - I left the SpaceX countdown and added some bits from a NASA Shuttle launch. But most of the rest is pretty much what was released in 1983. All the other compiled tracks are the very best spacey bits collected from across my whole 12 album Visionary Journeys catalogue and then arranged to give the feeling of a journey out amongst the stars before coming home.
